January - A cosy winter workshop at Nether Green House

Don't miss out on the February workshop - book to avoid disappointment

We shared a lovely workshop a few days ago at Nether Green Stitches. After last week's cancellation due to bad weather, it was a joy to welcome three of the original six ladies back into the studio. The room felt instantly brighter upon their arrival, with the log fire burning and crackling, setting a cosy atmosphere.

Our focus for the session was a choice of a winter -themed piece with each design offering its own quiet beauty. The choices were a winter tree in soft blue and white hues, a house nestled beneath mountains in cool blues and thirdly a winter garden, filled with seed heads and plant silhouettes in gentle greens, beiges, and deeper botanical tones. All the materials were provided for the choices and were pre packed.

Once the ladies were settled in the warm they explored the options and made their selections. The aim for the first half of the workshop was to plan and lay out their piece. Samples of each stitch piece was available to help with their progress, with assistance where needed everyone laid out their design and fixed fabric down using bonda web and prit stick. This was a great time to stop for refreshments and home baking, always a good time to settle the room and bring a sense of shared purpose.

The stitching could then begin introducing various kantha, running stitch to fix down many elements. Other stitches were added including couching, star stitch and french knots, everyone worked at their own pace.

We achieved a great deal in the two hour workshop, a textile design laid and partly stitched ready to take away and complete at home. Full instruction on how to progress was/is provided.

Through out the workshop the fire crackled softly in the background, filling the room with warmth and a wonderfully atmospheric glow whilst the soft music of Karine Polwart whispered in the background. The day was calm, creative and quietly companionable.

There is a programme of two hour workshops for just £20.00 per session including materials throughout 2026. Small workshops of up to six ladies. Booking is on first come basis - book now to avoid disappointment.
