SKETCHBOOKS

I love to do quick spontaneous drawings and enjoy capturing the things around me. Using a concertina sketchbook is ideal for using on site – I sketch both interiors  and outside subjects. I don’t always draw to scale in my sketch book,   but rather home in on certain observations that I come across – so I may draw the allotment and see a plant or vegetable that I am interested in; this then can end up the same size as the buildings! It’s great fun and gives the semi abstract feel that I like. I often just follow line without looking directly at the objects – the results can be surprising and gets away from a contrived exacting form.  My sketching provided me with inspiration and direction for my work.
